Japanese electronics giant Sony will become the first company to hold exclusive rights to broadcast matches of the World Cup 2010 in South Africa in 3D-format, reports AFP. The company has signed an agreement with FIFA. Sony plans to write to professional 3D-camera 25 matches of the tournament, which will be held in June-July this year.
Cameras will be installed in all stadiums in South Africa. Some of the meetings of the national teams will be broadcast in the seven major world cities – London, Berlin, Mexico City, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Rome and Sydney. Later records matches with mundial in three-dimensional image will be available in stores, to see who will need special stereoscopic glasses.
In the nearest Sony plans to integrate 3D-technology in many of its products, including televisions, personal computers and gaming console PlayStation 3. In the corporation hopes that the demonstration of a major sporting event in 3D-format will be a platform for the introduction of this technology to a broad audience of users.
